Academics

Middle School (Grades 6-8):
Building Strong Character During Their Most Formative Years

The Middle School program at Léman offers academically enriching and demanding classes to bolster critical thinking and problem-solving. Courses are delivered in a departmental structure, where subject matter experts lead instruction across a range of disciplines. Students have opportunities to reach beyond the school walls through cultural and travel learning experiences, building increased independence and a sense of community.

In Middle School, we help students lay the foundation for evaluating sources and information to make educated choices and acquire the building blocks they need to achieve success in future academics and life. We teach life skills such as strong communication, leadership, time management, and ownership of learning, which become part of students' tool belts for high school and university.

Character Building

In Middle School, students transition to our Morris Street campus, and from a homeroom-based learning environment to a departmental structure. We support students in navigating this increased independence to ensure that they have the resilience, self-management, confidence, and communication skills to thrive academically and socially in our program.

Advisory

Advisory provides a consistent small-group setting that fosters students' academic and personal growth. Middle School Advisory emphasizes six character-centered pillars, including respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, fairness, caring, and citizenship. Advisory groups support each other in developing personal goals, as well as celebrating accomplishments, within and outside of school.

Community

In Middle School, students build on bonds with long-time classmates as well as expand their peer group with friends new to Léman. Students benefit from the leadership of High School students, also located at the Morris Street campus, in cross-curricular activities such as after school clubs and peer tutoring that foster a sense of belonging and reinforce our one-school mission. Middle School students take domestic overnight trips in each grade to build community, participate in community service activities together, and serve as Where Everyone Belongs (WEB) Leaders to assist with Orientation and welcoming new students.

Extra-curricular Activities

Middle School is a time when students discover new passions and interests. Extra-curricular offerings such as competitive athletic teams, fine arts, and clubs and activities are available to Middle School students to enhance their academically challenging and engaging coursework.
